Todays Wood Shop
This is just a snapshot of what most school wood shops look like today. most tools are state of the art and have the most up to date safety features. Safety features are the most important thing that is need in the wood shop. Also able to be seen in the picture is the amount of space around the machines. The more room the less chance of someone getting hurt.

Rock out with wood
Talk about putting the wood to work This video filmed at the wood shop at Buljan Middle School in Roseville, CA, shows how music and wood shop go hand and hand. With the ability to use the wood shop to build guitars, students learn to things at once, able to build something then learn from the same thing the built. The one thing that caught my attention is that the school district dose not pay for any building material or any classes, its all ran by donations. Amazing in my eyes I must say.
The tide begins to turn
I was able to find a good article about the present day wood shop and what is happening to it. Over time, the wood shop has somehow made it way out of many schools due to budget cuts and lack of interest. another reason is that in todays world most things are being ran with more technology and less hands on building or creating. The article highlights one school and talk about how it has changed as well as building something for the future that will still implement the woodworking side of things

P.E. in schools today
With America being overweight at 66% school cafeterias do not help solve the case either with unhealthy food high in fats, grease and calories. With people buying and eating foods like this students need exercise and P.E. in schools. The only way to get kids/students to be active is through the schools with P.E. P.E. in school might be the only time students get to be active. With the amount of stress in schools today to do well exercise/physical activity is proving to reduce stress and clear your mind. It is good for the body and heart and you burn calories from the food you eat. P.E. must be mandatory because kids might never get to do some of things in P.E. class like canoing, rock climbing, field hockey, and basic sports.

P.E. now, more than ever
P.E. plays a big role in students lives even if they do not like it. P.E. in schools allow students to exercise everyday for a certain amount of time. This allows the students to get in 45 to 60 minuutes of exercise in class. It is important to have P.E. because in gym class that time to stay active might be the only time a student is active for the day because students might go home and just watch tv or sit around and do nothing. P.E. can lead the way for a healthy life!

The present on P.E.
In America today there are over 66% of people that are over weight. This is true because of children, teens, and adults eat improperly and do not exercise everyday fo at least 60 minutes a day. With school and the way the economy many schools are laying off teachers and getting rid of school programs to save a buck. Many schools are not making physical education mandatory because of the way things are with money and the economy. Schools fell that p.e. and music are not a big deal but it is. When you exercise and play it helps your body and more!!! P.E. SHOULD BE MANDATORY!!!

Girls can swing a hammer too
I was able to find a short article about a woodshop that manly had girls working in it. They will be in the shop for six weeks making table, book ends and tables, This just give a look into the olden days and that women have the power back then to build things out of wood as if a man was doing it.This just proves that women have the power to do anything they put their mind to.

A dozen girls are wielding the hammer and saw with effective dexterity in the woodworking shop of the Dunn County Agricultural school, under the guidance of Melvin Sommervold, instructor. They are taking a fling at this manual training for six weeks and their skill is evolving sewing tables, book ends, and tables and countless other useful articles. And the girls are to have nothing on the boys, it is announced, for a group of sophomore lads are to broaden their education with a knowledge of home economics, instruction for six weeks to include such fundamentals with the needle as sewing buttons on pants and some of the primary steps in the art of cookery. Dorothy Ausman is head of the Home Economics department.

Traveling Woodworking Shop Tours Schools
I was able to find a article about a traveling woodworking shop that went from school to school in California. The shop on wheels has everything that a regular shop would have in it. Heres a brief explanation about the shop on wheels and what its all about.
Making the rounds of schools and playgrounds in Pasadena, Calif., is a complete woodworking shop on wheels. Built on a truck chassis, it includes a circular saw and band saw, lathe, electric drill and small planer. Its power is taken by a long cord from the regular 110-volt circuit of whatever school ground the truck visits. It is equipped for model building and for teaching handicraft work in schools lacking workshops of their own.

COLLEGE TEXT BOOKS!!!!
Something that all of us can agree on is the insane cost of college text books. According to a federal committee chartered by Congress "first-time, full-time students spent a total of $898 at four-year public colleges and $886 at two-year public colleges on books and supplies" in 2003-04. With the rising cost of tuition and books it is making it more difficult for people to afford school. As previously posted, the amount of funding for schools is dropping so more money out of pocket will be needed to attend college in the future. Many students including my self found that teachers insist we buy the textbook and we often only read a very little from a few chapters. There are many online distributors that sell and rent the same textbooks you need in college for much cheaper.

P.E. in Germany (1700-1800)
During the early modern European period, P.E. in Germany focused on the development of strong citizens through programs in the schools and communities. A person named Johann Bernhard Basedow promoted school gymnastics. Th program focuse on exercise and instruction in activities such as gymnastics, games, marching, running, and wrestling. These leaders believed that P.E. deserved a place in school curriculum. Again....you know where I got this information, look at my other post..
Early Moden European Programs
During the late 1700s and 1800s, early modern Europe expericened the rising tide of nationalism. Against this backdrop, physical education programs in Germany, Sweden, and Great Britain developed and expanded. During the 1880s proponents of these programs introduced them to the United States. I got this information from the same book as the other post from before..

P.E. in Ancient Rome
During this time period (500 B.C.) physical activity was also regarded with importance. Their role with P.E. was different than Greece. Power and being fit was key for Romes military success. Males recieved training for the military by participating in activities like archery, riding, wrestling, and fencing. Strength training was important so males were able to protect the state. This is why Rome was so strong and had a lot of power. Rome eventually conquered Greece. I got this information from the same book as my other post on here.

Education Funding In the 17 century throught the early 1900s
Schools have been around since the 1600's. They were primarily based on religion but President Jefferson thought that schools should not be biased on religion or based on social status. Funding for schools going back as early as the Mid. to late 1800's was primarily based on grants and funding from the parents whos children attended these schools. This caused a problem because places with more wealthy individuals were the only places that were able to provide funding for schools. Places with a lower economy did not have the luxury of having an educational system. By the end of the century they were in full force providing free public schooling which was different then the private schools the wealthier areas were provided. Funding for public schooling was still difficult in the late 1800s but in the beginning of the 1900s state aid programs (many still existing today) were created to help fund the public schools. The states began to get involved in order to reduce the inequalities in the school system a high majority of the funds came from local sources and a very small amount came from state, roughly 15 percent from state and 85 from local sources.
