More Facts from BCCC

Bucks County Community College has three topics that they discuss on their website that show the severity of the funding decrease for community colleges including our very own. The government doesn't have the money to fund schools like it use too so they have to seek funds elsewhere.

* Challenged to meet the needs of a growing community, Bucks County now funds only 18% of the College’s operating budget—not the 30 percent envisioned at the College’s founding.
* BCCC students now pay 40 percent of the cost of their education rather than the one-third originally envisioned. While a full-time student pays just $1,345 in tuition and fees per semester, this still positions the College as the second most expensive community college in Pennsylvania and in the top 10 nationwide.
* Governor Rendell’s budget proposal includes no increase in capital funding for community colleges to update existing facilities, many of which are decades old. In 2006, the state’s fourteen community colleges shared just $4 million in funding for essential renovations.

Funding Decreases Hitting Home

This image is located on the BCCC website and shows how our school is funded. Although tuition may seem to be low it is the main source of revenue for the school. The website also states that the amount of funding has decreased despite the major growth in programs available. Even our very own school is feeling the effect of decreasing funding. In order to receive money they look to private support now more than ever.
In this video that i found, Before President Obama was president he was asked if he would send his daughter to a school that he was being interviewed at. He explains that the school itself needed many renovations and under his presidency he would make sure that he would provide more funding for schools to make them better on an educational level but also to make the schools gymnasiums and other miscellaneous things much more enjoyable for children.

Out with the old in the new

This article is a great example of what is going on with wood shops all over america. Small improvements in the wood shop make it a better and safer place.

When the new woodshop teacher at Ygnacio Valley High School in Concord was asked to share his woodshop for the summer, he was a bit nervous. He was new and the woodshop itself was a disaster. There was clutter all over, the walls hadn't been painted in 40 years, the equipment was barely functioning and the bench tops were dirty, full of holes and splinters. However, while he was skeptical, he agreed to trade the space for what he was told would be "some help in cleaning things up" from Mt. Diablo District Adult Education woodworking students, most of who are members of Diablo Woodworkers, a 250 member central Contra Costa County Woodworking club. The students were looking for a home while their Pleasant Hill Education Center woodshop was being refurbished.

What he got was a miracle.

In our society of the present kids are not eating properly as you can see in this picture and kids are not exercising enough to lead a healthy live. With P.E. being in schools of today gym class can help reduce the number of kids that are obese and overweight by teaching them what is proper to eat and why we all should exercise everyday. Once a teacher explains the consequences of no exercise and a poor diet students will change their habits. All a P.E. teacher of today needs to do is touch the lives of every kid one by one to stop the obesity rate from climbing in our society of today!

What does P.E.?

Here is a picture of a P.E. teacher that is teaching elementary students how to play soccer in a present P.E. class of todays society.

P.E. in the past compared to the present P.E.

In the past ideas and creativity paved the way for P. E. in schools as it was not a big deal compared to today. Back then student were not obese or overweight and activities were fun creative games made up. Now in the present, students are overweight with no exercise or a healthy diet. Today's P.E. consist of sports, group games, and still the creative games from the past still being used today in the gym.

Tools of the Trade

Here are a couple of pictures of tools that are used in wood shops across the nations. The top picture is a shot of battery powered tools. Theses tools are used to put or screw wood together, cut it as well as many other things. The bottom image is a picture of a table saw. the cool thing about this saw is that the blade drops if it feels any type of skin close to it. Tools used now of days have many safety features that make is close to imposable to get hurt on it or using it.

Physical Education plays a big role in schools of today. We all need to exercise because we all need to live active and healthy lives and fight obesity one kid at a time. P.E. matters.

P.E.

Physical education of today, the present shows students how to communicate with one another and interact. P.E. of today helps kids come together and play with one onther with lessons and activities also sports. With activity in schools of today it can lead to sportsmanship, leaders, mentors, and more. Exercise can help us all.
