P.E. in the past compared to the present P.E.

In the past ideas and creativity paved the way for P. E. in schools as it was not a big deal compared to today. Back then student were not obese or overweight and activities were fun creative games made up. Now in the present, students are overweight with no exercise or a healthy diet. Today's P.E. consist of sports, group games, and still the creative games from the past still being used today in the gym.

  1. I believe the most athletics sports are outside of Schools. Due to insurance issues some sports cant even be played in schools, well at least to the competitive stage where weight could be managed. It's a shame the obesity in our generation however, because we are a free country not much will change.

  2. I believe P.E. teachers should have longer classes or be 5 days a week with a decent exercise regime so that even the most out of shape kid would at least come out of the school year being in at least decent enough shape to walk an hour without stopping.

  3. From my understanding the physical education curriculum from about 50 years ago was much more strict and unforgiving. Some might say that it was discriminative of the students without athletic capabilities such as those with asthma or hart rate problems. Physical education is a delicate issue. It is something that the American education system is still trying to perfect without discriminating those who are not as capable or being too easy or oblique. -P.Maldonado

  4. Robert I agree with parts of your post. PE back when I was in school consisted of lots of exercise and we were required to play every sport to pass whether we were good at it or not. Then I think because of budget crunches some schools starting cutting back on PE. Now schools are going back to how it was back in the 1970,s, lots of activity. Children need PE in schools. I feel it is a very important subject, just as important as math or science. This was a very interesting post. Mary Ann Reday.

  5. When I was in school I remember every student playing and wanting to participate. We were taught how to play different sports. I also played soccer and softball outside of school. Now kids would rather stay inside and play with any electronic games.

  6. When I was in school, P.E. was fun. It was held everyday and everyweek we would learn a new sport. At recess time we were encouraged to continue to play these games, we did not sit around. Today's children spent too much time sitting in front of a TV - playing video games or watching TV programs. Childhood obesity is a serious issue that needs to be resolved. Mrs. Obama is a spokesperson for this growing problem and has launched a program titled "Let's Move." National attention focusing on this problem is a step in the right direction.

  7. When i was in school i can rememberer doing many activities and then going into high school and many of them activities were not taking place. its just sad to see how far, or lost the gym at schools has changed in such a short amount of time. also with many gym programs having sit down class time, its just another way from kids to see past the real gym class.

  8. What they eat has a lot to do with the weight problems. PE is very important, but it isn't everything. PE outside of school is also important. Half an hour of class won't burn nearly enough calories for the amount taken in. I think now teachers are way more lenient than before and don't care if the student doesn't want to participate.
