Funding Decreases Hitting Home

This image is located on the BCCC website and shows how our school is funded. Although tuition may seem to be low it is the main source of revenue for the school. The website also states that the amount of funding has decreased despite the major growth in programs available. Even our very own school is feeling the effect of decreasing funding. In order to receive money they look to private support now more than ever.

  1. Great post Rick. I didn’t know that 40% of the funding for Bucks comes from tuition. I believe this may be one of the highest rates in the state. I have been going to Bucks for almost 4 years now, in a part time role, and I have definitely seen tuition increase though the years. Unfortunately with the new governor in PA, we are going to see more cuts in the education budget. Whether you agreed or disagreed with former Gov. Rendell he did make education one of his top priorities and I’m afraid the new governor does not have the same respect for education. So as the cuts keep coming the tuition must certainly increase if Bucks is to continue to offer the same level of services and education.

  2. I was just watching the news and this is the big talk of the year so far. School funding is being cut tremendously! People don't seem to think of the future effects from it. BCCC is one of the more expensive community colleges around, and we all feel it. And since it's a community college, it's harder to get scholarships and grants from the government now.

  3. If Bucks can substain on just funding of their students, then imagne how much a big school like Penn State or Harvard makes on their tuition. Great post!!

  4. Even with rising cost of tuition at Bucks, I still feel that we get one of the best educations for the money that we pay. Sure, I hate the fact that funding is being cut and that our costs will most likely go even higher. So, as responsible citizens, we all need to keep the pressure on our legislators and not give up. As for myself, I plan to keep up my support of BCCC, monetary and otherwise, even after I move on to another college; that is how impressed I've been with my whole experience here.

  5. Great post. I had no idea that Bucks depends so much on tuition from students. At Bucks you get a great education for a reasonably low price. Many people go here because they cannot afford to go to a major University or College and if the prices keep rising many people will not get the education they need to make it in today’s competitive world.

  6. It's actually getting pretty serious the tolls budget cuts are affecting many school districts, where money is already tight (Wisconsin, New Jersey as other examples). This is quite eerily similar to my Political Science class, that discusses. This pretty much sucks for any student (and future students) currently seeking a higher education past college.

  7. The revenue generated from sports teams is very great. This is why recruiters spend so much more time and put in so much effort getting the most talented ball players. Have you been watching the NCAA basketball games? Have you been betting with the brackets? Buying Duke sweat shirts and filling Villanova's stands? Community college sports teams do not money, but other school's teams do!

  8. Eventhough BCCC is one of the most exspensive colleges around, I believe that it was money well spent. I received a quality education from Bucks, eventhough it was a struggle fiancialy. Despite the lack of funding and the increase in tuition, inorder to succeed in this world a college education is no longer an option, but a requirement.
